Northsound One had TM??! as opposed to MMI???
...or was that the same era as Forth FM (also SRH Group) had (a small bundle of) TM?
  • That's a mixture of TM Century's "We Play The Hits" and the identically similar ALFA custom from 1997.

Not exactly sure how it all worked out on air.
  • BigdaveBigdave May 2011
That Alfa Custom for Northsound 1 (known as Essential Rhythm) was a brilliant package!

Bizarre how the word "radio" is sung in a very NOT-Italian accent!...yet the rest "is"!
  • BarrasBarras June 2011
You`ve picked up on something Iain that might be a jingle first here...

Could there be TWO groups of singers on this package ?

One group singing the Italian words and another group singing the English words ?
  • wixy1360wixy1360 June 2011
Er...was hard enough with Freeway doing French-station jingles in English except for the station name in French i.e. the opposite way around to the above lot!

Maybe TM didn't realise they could have pronounced the "radio" bits in near-enough-to-Spanish and got away with it! It worked OK on the Martini Lounge(?) ones for Italy's Radio Capitale...

  • Impressive WLNG jingles! Probably done in the 1980s as well with the Dallas and Toledo (Ken R.) vocal groups...
  • wixy1360wixy1360 July 2011
There are indeed some KenR Collectors CDs floating around choc-a-block with WLNG resings...will try to find some...(soon...ish)

What is the instrumental bit at the beginning David?

Audio quality-wise it seems to be a different entity from the actual cuts.
  • BarrasBarras September 2011
I know what you mean Iain, I was thinking it`s not by JAM, perhaps an "edit" by someone in KMLE production, the beginning and end is obviously by JAM but the music bed, I`m not sure ?

However, I have heard remixes of JAM music beds in other packages (definitely by JAM) one cut springs to mind is Turbo Z #13 which has been generally used as a weather cut, I`ve heard about 4 different (slight variation) music beds versions of that cut...

I disagree. I think the bit in the middle, as well as the beginning and end, is JAM.

Fair comment, let`s assume the begining "the middle" and the end of the cut is by JAM, the music bed ("the middle") must be unique to the KMLE package, as I`ve never heard this music bed before in Q Cuts and I have several resings of the Q Cuts package for other stations.

It sounds as though the KMLE production folks (or perhaps JAM) simply looped Q Cuts cut 15 to make a bed with some additional effects added in.

Don`t know about you but I found jingle trading and collecting was rather scarce during the summer of 2011, however, my favourite catch was a dub of JAM`s station master for WYNY New York City with loads of versions of the long station WYNY song. The dub also has ALL of the name-check DJ jingles including a name-check jingle for Dan Daniel, who back in the 1980s was the first DJ aircheck I heard of WYNY on Radio 1`s A King In New York . Here`s a montage of the DJ name-check jingles for WYNY by JAM Creative Productions.

JAM - WYNY NEW YORK CITY (DJ NAME-CHECK JINGLES)

  • wixy1360wixy1360 October 2011
Ah-ha! First heard these on Radio One circa 1980/1 when the (now disgraced) J. King Esq did a feature about New York Radio (he was living there then and did a chat/music show on ... WMCA possibly?), and played aircheck bits including WYNY and WABC, and he also played the (then) new radio One versions of the "ABC" cuts as comparisons.
Only many years later did I discover JAM and realise that just about ALL that he played from the different NY stations were actually from the same producer but with different vocal & instrumental styles.

"Don`t know about you but I found jingle trading and collecting was rather scarce during the summer of 2011"
Not just the summer...and "trading" as in 1:1 swaps rather than one-way "donations" seems about dead now - but I have to say a big "Thank You" to all those who kindly "donated" me all sorts of "heritage" good stuff lately - I just hope that some of the "donations" I've also made around the collecting world will have kept interest going to others too.
    :^)
  • BarrasBarras October 2011
I haven`t got the aircheck of Dan Daniel anymore but I remember his on-air "catchphrase" (so to speak) was "all over the big town" referring to New York City..
  • wixy1360wixy1360 October 2011
    "all over the big town"

As I mentioned about old aircheck cassettes this morning over on another thread, I have a feeling I still might have some of the J. King aircheck mentioned above, because the phrase above is on that somewhere (with the Al Bernstein" DJ cut - with loads of compression uplift at the jingle going into he next record).
[I need a brain clean-up & defrag - far much old data in here!)
  • BarrasBarras October 2011
Iain, I`m not sure now !

It could have been Al Bernstein instead of Dan Daniel, we`re talking over 30 years ago, so I think "our" brain-defrag isn`t too bad, we`re in the right area either Al or Dan. It would put me out of my misery if you could find that KINY aircheck cassette !

PS for our American friends KINY is a King In New York....

I`ve posted quite a lot of JAM montages in the last few month, here`s something different from a company that doesn`t get featured very much on Jinglemad, another favourite company of mine, FairWest...

2WD is WWDE, a station in Hampton, Virginia.
  • TaterStudTaterStud November 2011
As long as I worked at that place, I have NEVER heard these! Very cool!
  • BarrasBarras November 2011
Pleased you enjoyed that montage Chris and never knew you had worked at WWDE - I would say that`s very cool !
  • TaterStudTaterStud November 2011
It was great! If you ever hear the 2WD Reel World montage (with a TM jingle thrown in) - I grabbed them during my last shift there... which I believe was in 2005. They are in a neat warehouse style building in Virginia Beach with Z104 WNVZ and 95.7 WVKL. I have an aircheck around here somewhere - from when 2WD was using one of the TM WPLJ packages... will have to find it.

Here`s a rare aircheck that hasn`t been posted before on Jinglemad and I thought it would be interesting to UK radio fans, it features the great Tommy Vance.

Born Richard Anthony Crispian Francis, Richard got his radio DJ name “Tommy Vance” from a station in the USA called WKOL known as “KOL” in Seattle. The station had bought jingles from PAMS for a “Tommy Vance” who didn`t turn up for the job, Richard Francis took the employment on-air and ended up as “Tommy Vance” and became a well-known name in British radio and his voice-work on radio and TV commercials.

For our American cousins, you can read more about Tommy Vance here…

Here`s the Tommy Vance aircheck including PAMS jingles on KOL…

  • wixy1360wixy1360 April 2012
Never knew that whole story before David! Didn't know he'd worked at legendary KHJ Los Angeles - just as well he had a "problem" with the US draft - otherwise there would have been a big missing chapter in UK radio history.

(PS - don't want to contradict you, but "KOL" WAS [*cough*] 1300 kHz KOL Seattle not WKOL - K call letters generally to the west of the Mississip, W calls to the east thereof, with the odd one or two very early K's in the east and a likewise W or two to the west.)
  • BarrasBarras April 2012
Oooooooooops ! Freudian slip as I`ve known about the “Mississippi thing” since I was about 12 years, anyway, hope you enjoyed the audio, one of my favourite introductions to a radio show was Tommy Vance on Radio 1`s Friday Rock Show.
