yes it has the feel of the movies.. but I dont think it works as a jingle .. As a piece of music they are well made..but they dont gel with the music of the station

If you've not heard them then some cuts are up on the Music4 site
http://www.music4.com/musicservices/catalogue/632/bbc-radio-1/chris-moyles-jingles-january-2010.html
I personally think it shows how much Chris really loves jingles - to get a 60 piece orchestra to do them is amazing - they do sound "huge". And I like the fact that Chris does re-fresh his jingles in january - think of the number of stations who leave the same stuff on for years and years. Chris is one of the few DJs who really knows how to use jingles within a programme to keep the pace etc. How many just play one out of the news and that's it.

Nicky ..True but the package is lost ..its like a news package with singing .. and its a miss match with the music

but yes the package is great and I would love to be on air and get new jingles every season...he is doing the job well..but radio 2 must be his next move...mid morning

I think they sound great. I don't really mind that the jingles don't sound like the music played - I don't think they necessarily have to - but I was worried when I first heard them that they were too "big" to work as talkover beds. But hearing them in use more, I think they work brilliantly.

I love the way he uses them with the pips as well - clearly modelled on how Radio 1 used to do it with JAM jingles in the 80s/90s. Attached is an example, from his first show this year. Just goes to show how much he cares about the heritage of Radio 1... and about making great-sounding radio.

Many people will be aware that the Radio 1 jingle archive was digitised for their 40th anniversary in 2007.

Well,a friend who is a sometime visitor to this site, was responsible for the process of converting the tapes to a digital format, and he advised me that Chris was calling him to ask if he'd got specific JAM cuts to use during the anniversary celebrations at regular intervals.

Just another form of proof that he does care about the heritage of the station !

There's a friend I know called Radio and it means a lot to me.....

Not worth a new thread, but today I edited together some audio of the jingles used on Friday's Golden Hour. Great to hear Chris using JAM stuff each week.

So, altogether now - BUTCH AND SINCERE, BUT WHAT WAS THE YEAR?

Great to hear those classic JAM jingles, the all time quality benchmark for jingle production on Radio One ~ and still sounding perky, fresh, clear and fantastic all these DECADES later!

And Chris Moyles certainly uses them well...

NO cheesy synthesiser beds here.....!

Metro Radio ~ the North East Sound (1974-1976)
Piccadilly Radio (1976)
Radio Trent ~ Your 24 Hour Friend (1977 to 1994)
plus GEM-AM ~ Have a Golden Day! (1988 to 1994)
Saga Radio ~ R.I.P. (2005)

Glad you enjoying it Len! I especially love the use of Red Hot cut #8 mixing into Drinking In L.A. at 2:25 in. One jingle made in 1986, one song released in 1998, and yet they work together brilliantly.

Thought I'd post the jingle Moyles has been using for The Surgery this week - a resing of the one for the old Who Knows Dom/Just Ask Dom feature. Really enjoy this version, though!

Yep, I think that version's really good. Amazing what you can do with a simple re-sing

For anyone who's interested, I've just finished editing together a snapshot of the imaging Moyles has been using on air recently; to warn you, it's a shade under 25 minutes, so run away screaming if you wish:

http://dirtyfeed.org/audio/moyles-220710.mp3

It's also the debut of my first personal cut from JAM at the top and tail, for my upcoming website. Which I'm extremely happy with!

Here's a montage I've just edited together of most of the variants of the main out-of-news Moyles jingles. Nothing rare or anything, but it's fun to see how they've changed over the years - they're in (more-or-less) chronological order. (The only two variants that aren't represented as far as I'm aware are Morning Carnival cuts for the 2006 World Cup, as I couldn't get one with a clean intro - and the ones for this year's World Cup, as they aren't on the Music 4 site at all).

Personal preference, but I find the penultimate cut (from 2009) is by far the worst musically - but the final cut, from 2010 is one of the best. I also have soft spot for the very first version as well.

And yes, I have a weakness for cuts with implied swearing and insulting Johnny Vaughan. Sorry about that.
